Creating a base price list If someone asks you: "If asked, would you be able to answer?
There is a good chance that you will have to come up with a list of core values on the spot.
I know that there is a low chance that you will actually be asked this question, but still, do you think it is a powerful question to have an answer to?
It is interesting to note that the most successful large companies have a list of core values, such as Zappos, Whole Foods Market, Southwest Airlines, and Google. Any corporate advisor or top executive will tell you that companies that live by a strong list of core values are more likely to generate long-term success.
So if this is a common factor in successful companies, why don't most individuals have defined core values?
Core values lead to happiness and success
Personally, I believe that having a list of personal core values will lead to a happier, more fulfilling and richer life. Having a list of personal core values will help you prioritize and also serve as a measure of whether you are living the life you want to live.
If your actions are consistent with your list of core values, life tends to go well. If your actions are not consistent with your values, it tends to lead to disappointment.
Core values make life easier
Life is much easier if you have established standards to live by. It makes it easier to make decisions: "What decision would match up with my list of personal core values?
Once you know your core values, you can use them to make decisions about how you want to live your life. Questions like:
Should I start a business?
- What kind of business should I get into?
- Should I work with this person?
- Should I make a business deal or not?
- Should I help this person?
- When you take the time to create your personal core values, you can refer to this list at any time to know if the decision will lead you to the ultimate life you want.
In a moment, I will give you some ideas on how to create a core values list, but before that, I want to cover something important in this process ...
Post Your Core Values List and Read It Every Day
If you do not leave the list in front of you, you may forget it. I put it on my laptop and see it every day. If you don't have much time to go to your computer, put it on your notebook, put it on your mobile phone homepage, or put it on the place you see every day.
With a list in front of you regularly, you can always remember how to live. To further play a reminder, I wrote "Always ..." at the top of the Core Value List.
